Chunking Chinese has given me the skills I needed to break through the intermediate plateau. I found the videos and transcripts easy to understand whilst at the same time containing tons of new words for me to learn. The flashcards give me a quick daily activity I can do to keep me focused and boost my vocabulary, whilst the breakdowns and explanations of each concept give me a rich context to deepen my understanding. There is a mixture of topics in the course to suit everyone's needs. I thoroughly recommend this course to anyone wanting to take their Chinese to the next level

I have just completed my first Chunking Chinese lesson and am very motivated for the next one! I chose Going to the Supermarket (29) as I have recently watched some Mandarin YouTube videos on this theme, and it fitted perfectly with them. Having completed all sections, watching the video several times, and using the materials, I feel that I know the vocabulary and the language points in this lesson. I looked at the explanatory PDF first, which really helped to prepare for watching the video. I found the listening exercise difficult and needed to listen a few times, but by the end I could listen all the way through without stopping and understand it. The video and the sentences are a comfortable length. I really like the Mandarin Mosaic APP. You can hear the vocab and chunks applied in sentences beyond those in the video, and you can type the Chinese into the gaps and listen to them - over and over until you remember them. I’ve recently started using AI to practice Mandarin and can now use the chunks I learnt with Chunking Chinese!

In general I really like this course. It's extremely useful in daily life. It keeps filling in my vocab gaps. Over the past few years I have bought plenty of different courses and materials, but this course seems to be exactly the one I needed. Thanks to it I can see how easily Chinese can be used in daily life as long as we are exposed to the right vocab. That's the biggest challenge with many materials available on the market for Chinese learners. In other courses the vocabulary is usually extremely random, there are hardly any example sentences to show learners how to use it, but that's not the case at all in Chunking Chinese.

I have loved Chunking Chinese for three reasons in particular: 1. It provides a complete cycle of new content and revision. I love not needing to think about what’s next and how to revise 2. I just finished HSK 4, and I didn’t want to jump right into HSK 5 as I hoped to revise and get a real handle of my learning in HSK 4. Doing Chunking Chinese along with the Mandarin Mosaic app has allowed for me to revise HSK 4 vocabulary and also learn new useful words so I feel I am still learning a good amount of words while revising 3. I have been one of those mandarin students who are shy to speak to natives, so having the audio which allows me to repeat after a speaker has been a good means to boost my confidence. It’s something I have not come across in other programmes so far so I think it is great

The Chunking Chinese course is really helpful! Not only did I get access to more than 40 lessons where each lesson contains listening and pronunciation practice as well as new vocabulary, but thanks to Will's tips I also finally learnt how to properly create and use flashcards. In only a few weeks, I've become more confident in speaking and although I'm not perfect at it, thanks to the course I can now properly practice actively speaking! Before I didn't know how to practice speaking and I was always a bit scared of being judged for it, but because I've been practicing my pronunciation in each lesson, I've gotten more comfortable speaking. I can definitely recommend the chunking chinese course! - And I really appreciate how quickly Will responds to my emails and how he's always encouraging me to keep it up, it definitely motivates me to continue learning as well!

I went about learning Mandarin the wrong way. I bounced between textbooks, avoided speaking, and somehow reached an upper-intermediate level, but it was wobbly. I had the words but not the voice. That’s when I found Will’s course. His method is simple but powerful: Listen & Read, Slow Listening, Sentence Imitation, Shadowing, and Flashcards. It’s not just listening practice - it rewired my ear, tongue, and brain to sound like a human being again. I learned to hear the rhythm before chasing tones, to mimic the sound before forcing structure. If you’ve been stuck on the plateau, able to speak Chinese but not sound Chinese, this course will get you unstuck. If you want to speak Mandarin, speak Mandarin with Will.

The course is extremely effective, and I hope other people discover it. I want to thank you. The whole Chunking Chinese system has been key to achieving a huge breakthrough this year, after 2.5 years of self-study. A few months ago, I felt like I knew so much Chinese, but when it came to speaking in person it felt like pulling words out of a void. I would just freeze. The chunks I've learned (and drilled on) help me communicate on a completely different level. Lately I've actually been having conversations with strangers. I've gotten to know people I run into on the train at the store. I feel free and confident, because after drilling on the chunks, I have a lot of topics to talk about with strangers. Everyone always seems so delighted to chat with me. I think because I'm easy to understand. I love that the course has much more modern phrases than what I was getting from apps and textbooks. Like, when I watch livestreams and reality shows, now I actually understand what people are saying because people talk like your videos.

I really appreciate your balanced approach to learning. I've studied for just over a year and for the first year focused almost exclusively on input and I have just felt something has been missing, and Chunking Chinese has really clicked some things into place. I also, will add, that for me just having a clear structure has been really helpful. I think sometimes it is very difficult to know what to focus on and I am not sure if I am using my time efficiently or not. So just being able to trust the structure you have built has felt very comforting

I can now have long, unscripted conversations in (still very imperfect) Chinese on a range of topics, and Chunking Chinese is turning out to be a great way of adding sentence patterns and common colloquial expressions.

As an intermediate learner, this course has helped me fill in gaps in my knowledge that are applicable to everyday life. It has also helped me further develop a natural rhythm and readiness to speak consistently in Chinese with my Chinese colleagues. It covers many incredibly useful 'chunks' that native speakers always use and that you may not encounter within the traditional HSK system. It is self-paced and a highly valuable resource for anyone with intermediate knowledge of Chinese that wants to bridge the gap from a capable but struggling communicator to a confident and fluent speaker of Chinese.
