TV Shows (But Only If You\u2019re Selective)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">TV can be very useful,  <em>if<\/em> you focus on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>everyday situations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>realistic dialogue<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>modern settings<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re not watching for entertainment alone.<br>You\u2019re watching for <strong>reusable language<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Spot_a_%E2%80%9CGood%E2%80%9D_Chunk\"><\/span>How to Spot a \u201cGood\u201d Chunk<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s a simple test.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A chunk is high-quality if it meets <strong>at least two<\/strong> of these conditions:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>You hear it often<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It works in many situations<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>You could imagine yourself using it<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It would be hard to translate word-for-word<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It feels \u201ccomplete\u201d when spoken<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>\u5728\u6211\u770b\u6765\u2026\u2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u628a\u2026\u2026\u5f53\u6210\u2026\u2026<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>\u8bf4\u767d\u4e86\u2026\u2026<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">These aren\u2019t just sentences.<br>They\u2019re <strong>tools<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"What_Not_to_Collect_This_Matters\"><\/span>What <em>Not<\/em> to Collect (This Matters)<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">One of the biggest mistakes learners make is collecting:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>rare vocabulary<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>overly specific sentences<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>impressive but unnatural phrases<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">If you\u2019ve never heard a chunk used naturally, don\u2019t prioritise it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Fluency comes from <strong>high-frequency usefulness<\/strong>, not novelty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_Many_Chunks_Should_You_Learn\"><\/span>How Many Chunks Should You Learn?<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Less than you think.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">A small number of well-chosen chunks will:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>outperform hundreds of isolated words<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>reduce hesitation<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>improve accuracy automatically<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Focus on:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>A few chunks a day <\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>using them repeatedly<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>seeing and encountering them in different contexts<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Depth beats quantity every time, especially when learning Mandarin with the<a href=\"https:\/\/www.chunkingchinese.com\/products\/courses\/chunkingchinese\"> Chunking Chinese Method<\/a> as an intermediate learner. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<hr class=\"wp-block-separator has-alpha-channel-opacity\"\/>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\"><span class=\"ez-toc-section\" id=\"How_to_Practice_Chunks_So_They_Stick\"><\/span>How to Practice Chunks So They Stick<span class=\"ez-toc-section-end\"><\/span><\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Here\u2019s a simple, sustainable approach:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<ol class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Notice the chunk<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Write down one natural example<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Say it out loud<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Change one element<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Use it again later<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">For example:<\/p>\n\n\n\n<blockquote class=\"wp-block-quote is-layout-flow wp-block-quote-is-layout-flow\">\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u5bf9\u6211\u6765\u8bf4\uff0c\u8fd9\u4e2a\u4e0d\u592a\u91cd\u8981<br>\u5bf9\u6211\u6765\u8bf4\uff0c\u73b0\u5728\u6700\u91cd\u8981\u7684\u662f\u65f6\u95f4<\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">You\u2019re not memorising, you\u2019re <strong>training patterns<\/strong>.
